This week we got to check off an item on our bucket list - we survived a hurricane.
For the first time in 22 years a Hurricane met the Hawaiian Islands. Hurricane Iselle was a category one hurricane when it met little Hilo head on late Thursday night. We moved to the islands just in time. . .
As the storm approached we hunkered down and said a little prayer. M. drove our car up the road to our neighbor's house; they have a carport that we thought would provide extra protection. It was so kind of them to let allow us to do so.
So much anticipation had been built up in our minds from the media . . .it seemed pretty uneventful up until around 11 pm. Just very windy and VERY rainy.
We were in bed when all of the sudden we heard a load THUD and the power was off. Naturally M. sprang to action to see what was afoot. Turns out a couple large trees had fallen down due to the wind and hit the power lines. A massive amount of sparks were coming from the downed power lines; it was crazy. The sky was a deep red hue and the wind sounded like a helicopter was circling above us. Lets just say it was a rough nights sleep.
Through all of this, the coqui frogs "chirp/ping" never faltered.
When we awoke M. briskly surveyed the damage. A few downed trees, some missing palm leaves from palm trees, damaged roofs were about the extent of Hurricane Iselle.

What an adventure we have been on. I guess that's what we signed up for.
I'm gratefully that we were safe and that the majority of Hawaii was safe as well. So glad we were able to prepare and felt safe and secure in our new home. Made us love our place even more I think.
Grateful for M. . . .I don't think I'd want to be stuck in a hurricane with anyone else.
In closing . . .we miss you Utah . . .but we've Gone Surfing!
