Today we took our first dip in the Hawaiian Pacific waters.
Due to some time restraints we went to the nearest beach (about a ten minute walk away) and took our newly purchased snorkeling gear. We've never been snorkeling before and were extremely excited to do so.
Well . . .this beach we went to is known for it's beautiful black sand. However, unknown to the newbies of the island NOTHING is visable underwater. . .seriously you can't even see your hand a foot in front of you.
So there we were snorkeling in this very unclear water enjoying ourselves but seeing absolutely nothing. Some locals were nearby enjoying lunch and we were pretty sure they were laughing at our attempt. Gratifying our thought a kind local came upon us and explained we wouldn't be able to see anything at this beach but a mile down the road would suit us better.
I made the comment "You can tell we're new here, huh?" and he responding with a humiliating " Oh yeah!!!"
Although we made fools of ourselves and came home covered in black sand, we greatly enjoyed our first dip in the Hawaiian Pacific waters.
Tomorrow we are going to attempt the more clearer waters down the road.
We miss you Utah . . .but we've Gone Surfing! : )
