We made the journey East this weekend . . .to beautiful Kona!!!
To get to Kona you can take three different courses; the Southern Course (2.5 hours), the Northen Course (2.1 hours), and the "through the Center" Course (1.45 hours). Unknown to us, we took the longest route because we thought we'd see Volcano National Park along the way. By the time we got there though, it was pitch black. Let's just say it was a long journey . . .in the dark.
Our hotel was absolutely beautiful however. We stayed in the gorgeous Royal Kona Resort - highly recommended. After getting our first night's sleep on a REAL mattress (our new one is in route from the mainland) we awoke in an air conditioned room and promptly went to the gorgeous Kona LDS Temple.

Great things about Kona:
- It doesn't rain every single day, ALL THE TIME, like in Hilo (we actually saw the sun).
- There are some great places to snorkel. We stopped at Kahalu'u Bay and had the most amazing time exploring the reef. Puffer Fish, Sea Cucumbers, and Sea Turtles . . ,OH MY!
- You get lots of sun in Kona - M. is extremely tan . . .I'm a lobster.
- The night life is hopping. Even if you don't do the bar scene you can grab some delicious shave ice and watch some extremely talented street performers.
- Kona has a ton of shops like K-Mart, Costco, etc. that we don't have in Hilo.
- It has a beautiful commercial marina that's the perfect place to visit if you love boats.

We had such a fun time in Kona this weekend. We were extremely grateful for the opportunity to get away and further explore our new home.
It was good to get back to little Hilo however; it's starting to feel like home to us. Slowly but surely. It's amazing the difference between the two sides of the island. Hilo is such a jungle comparatively.
Gratefully the sun followed us home. Another beautiful day in paradise.
We miss you Utah . . .but we've Gone Surfing!!
