The most spectacular firework display we've ever witnessed. Happy 4th of July folks!
We moved to Hilo on July 11th and missed the REAL 4th of July. Apparently, however, we didn't miss much. There was a glitch in the firework display and they were unable to shoot off any fireworks on the holiday. In an effort to make up for such an upset, they "redid" the 4th of July yesterday and we were privileged enough to witness it's grandness.
What a fun event to be a part of. The city shut down the waterfront highway and allowed everyone to camp out on the beaches to get the best seat. As bike riders, we were in heaven. With a couple live bands performing 80's hits in the city park gondola we rode up and down the highway enjoying the beautiful weather.
The nice part about the Fireworks here was that first off, there was not any houses blocking your view and secondly, you don't have to worry about fires - since they are shooting the fireworks over Hilo Bay. It was an amazing thing to witness and even the long time locals agreed it was the best one yet.

M. started Pharmacy school this week and has enjoyed it SO much thus far. Lets just say he's going to be very busy the next couple of years with all the clubs and activities he is a part of. I'm so proud of his hard work.
Yesterday, the P1's (Pharmacy First Years) met with their mentors at the college pool. It was a gorgeous day and we so enjoyed ourselves taking in the sun and making new friends. It's amazing how much taller M. and I are compared to the rest of the group. We didn't realize it until we moved here. Seriously . . .it's so funny to watch M. walk around. He towers over everyone.

In our travels yesterday we found a booth at the Farmers Market that sells absolutely gorgeous handmade Hawaiian quilts. For our "quilt loving" family members here are some pictures of these beautiful creations. We go to the Farmers Market pretty much every Saturday and Wednesday to stock up on fresh produce. We are so grateful at what we can purchase there. My favorite, to date, is Rambutan. The weirdest looking fruit ever, it has a juicy, almost gummy core. YUM!
With our schedule filling we are very grateful for the opportunities to make new friends, experience new things, and grow as individuals and as a couple.
Speaking of new friends . . .this is what the snails look like in Hilo. They are HUGE.
We miss you Utah . . .but we've Gone Surfing!
