"The White Coat Ceremony signifies the rite of passage for students in the health professions to affirm their commitment to the values of their profession, including professionalism, respect, integrity, and compassion. Incoming Doctor of Pharmacy Students will recite the Oath of a Pharmacist for the first time in front of their peers, their professors, the community, and their families as they publicly declare their intent to be a respectable health care professional."
So proud of M. today and the big step he took in his Pharmacy career. He's worked so hard and I'm so grateful for his dedication and effort.
After starting out the ceremony with the traditional Hawaiian prayer and a couple speakers they individually called each new pharmacy student and fitted them with their "white coat". Luckily the group had practiced this routine prior so it was pretty quick and slick. There is a total of 83 students in the graduating class of 2018.
Afterwards, we were dismissed to enjoy delicious POG (pineapple-orange-guava juice) and cake. I snagged a couple photos of M. with his friends. He got spoiled by his Frat and Big Brother.

If you're curious to how M. both keeps up on his studying and enjoying the beauty of Hawaii here are two pictures that pretty much sum it up.
Poke + Beach + Studying = Success
*poke is variously seasoned raw fish typically on a bed of rice.

So grateful for where we are today. Grateful for all our dear family members who have supported us and for our new friends here in Hilo. Grateful for M. in my life. Grateful for both the sunshine and rain here in sleepy Hilo.
